To put your faith in Jesus, you must know enough about Jesus that you're willing to put your trust in Him at the cost of your trust being in anything else, such as your works, lineage, theology, understanding, scripture, knowledge, status, church, prayer, control, other gods, etc. Putting your faith in Jesus is saying, God, lump me in with Jesus, and judge me by Him, His success, His Word, His record, His finished work (John 19:30), and not myself, my performance, my merit, or my record. No longer look at me, God, but look at Him to determine my worthiness. I transfer the responsibility of my well-being from anything to do with me, to be entirely on Him, and in His hands; for I receive Him as my legal representative before You and before the courts of heaven. I forsake all backup plans, and put all my eggs in the basket of Jesus Christ; I remove my feet from all other camps, and plant both of them in Christ alone.

Scripture's ultimate goal is to reveal Jesus (John 5:39, Luke 24:27, 44-47), that you would change your mind about Him, and decide to depend on Him. "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ" (Rom. 10:17). But to move from "believing that" Jesus is (Jam. 2:19), to "believing in" Jesus, who rose from the dead is a decision you make based on evidence and testimony you've been given (Rom. 1:18-20). Someone can believe a plane will fly while still refusing to board it. You need to hear Scripture make the case for believing in, or putting your faith in, Jesus, so that you gather enough information to decide to do just that. 

Many times in Scripture, you do NOT see people who couldn't believe in Jesus; you see people who wouldn't believe in Jesus. They were 'unwilling,' not unable (Mat. 22:3, John 5:40, Luke 13:34, Acts 7:51, Rom. 11:15, Rev. 3:20). Repeatedly in Scripture, you see unbelief not because of an inability, but because a deliberate refusal to receive Jesus for various foolish reasons (Luke 14:18-20, Mat. 22:5, Rom. 1:18-20, 25, 28).

If you've decided to believe in, or to put your faith in Jesus, then sit back and let Him do the saving! (Mat. 11:28-30). No longer look inwardly (Heb. 12:2b), for your salvation no longer rests on you, but it's entirely in His hands (Mat. 1:21b). You are no longer your voice in the courts above, but He is your voice before the Judge. He is your advocate, your defense attorney, and He wins every time (John 10:28), for the One under scrutiny is no longer you, but Him (2 Cor. 5:21), and if He's approved, and He is (John 14:30, Heb. 4:15), you're entry is secured (Eph. 1:13)!

Should you stand before the courts and the accuser (Rev. 12:10) asks, "What right do you have to be here?" You need do nothing else but point to Him who is on the throne and let Him take it from there. Like the thief crucified adjacent to Jesus could claim, "the Man on the middle cross said I could join Him here". 

Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great, and He will divide the plunder with the strong, because He poured out His life unto death, and was counted with wrongdoers; yet He Himself bore the sin of many, and interceded for the wrongdoers. - Isaiah 53:12

My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; - 1 John 2:1

Who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, but rather, was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us. - Romans 8:34

Therefore He is also able to save forever those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. - Hebrews 7:25

For Christ did not enter a holy place made by hands, a mere copy of the true one, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; - Hebrews 9:24
