Possibly the scariest part of Jesus going to the cross is what it tells us about Hell. For how bad does it have to be for Someone to pay that kind of debt to ransom us from it. I love my wife and would do almost anything for her, but if you asked me to take a brutal torturous mangling death so that she could get out of a mere parking ticket... I'm sorry babe, you're gonna have a parking ticket on your record. But at what level would I step up to endure such torture? That's simple, to the degree it frees her from it, my love compels me. If every slap, punch, and stab was one less slap, punch, and stab she took, well then, give me all of them and spare me none of them, for that to me would be worth it.

But He was pierced for our offenses,
He was crushed for our wrongdoings;
The punishment for our well-being was laid upon Him,
And by His wounds we are healed. - Isaiah 53:5

God loves you like that and your sin does not invalidate His love but rather it compels Him to take your place.
